Product Description

Hand-hammered rivets and special finishes characterise the B17 Special Saddle. Like all of our leather saddles, each beautiful B17 Special emerges by hand from our Smethwick, England factory where it has been carefully finished with hand-hammered copper rivets to add life to the saddle by protecting the durable vegetable tanned leather. A comfortable bike seat thanks to its unique design and hammock-like performance, the B17 Special flexes with every pedal stroke and will mould specifically to each rider, achieving a lovely patina over time.

best Brooks saddle shape in a lighter package

I've had many saddles since beginning serious cycling over 50 years ago. I have a Brooks Pro from that era and have had many synthetic saddles from 70's Cinelli to more modern Specialized Romin models. I was interested in light weight and just had my Brooks Pro on the shelf. As old age sets in, comfort starts to be higher on the list of attributes you want in a saddle. Shape starts to be the deciding factor. I tried a Brooks Swift but the shape was not as accommodating as my old Pro. Neither was a Berthoud Galibier. I gave Brooks Cambium a try, but not quite right yet. Then the B17 narrow and then the B17 standard carved and that was the one. Very similar shape to my old Pro, but somehow more comfortable right out of the box. I don't worry about the weight now, but 560 gr is a bunch. I had a chance to get a B17 titanium which fit the same as the standard B17, but dropped about 130 gr. This is a keeper and when I had a chance to get another one through Movatik at a good price. My bike collection is now two tandems with B17 and B17S carved saddles (wife loves the B17S) and six steel bikes (vintage and modern rando). Five of the six steel bikes have B17 titaniums or Ideale 90 saddles on them. The B17 titanium is the lightest of them all and maybe the most comfortable. It is highly recommended.
